New Cambria

About New Cambria

Founded in 1861 as the railroad town of Stockton, New Cambria was renamed a few years later to honor its Welsh roots—“Cambria” meaning “Wales.” The name change reflected the hopes of Welsh immigrants seeking a new beginning in northern Missouri.

Shaped by the railroad, farming, and close community ties, the town has long been defined by resilience—from its early settlers to the founding of the Bank of New Cambria during the Great Depression.

Today, BNSF Railway trains still run along the original lines that helped establish the town, linking its proud past to the present. Visitors will find a welcoming rural community that celebrates its heritage and agricultural traditions.
